Flat Nose Pliers:
Flat nose pliers are used to securely hold loops and wire wraps while you make or adjust them, or to close rings. The flat nose you choose are mostly a matter personal preference, but certain kinds do hold better than others. You should make sure your flat nose fit comfortably in your hands, as you will use them for many long hours closing rings and need to ensure a sturdy hold on what you using them for.
Tronex P544:
Strong, reliable, and very made well pliers. The beautiful satin finish of the metal jaws hold securely and firmly onto any size of wire and any jump rings you use them with. They are compact and shaped nicely to work well with all common sizes of wire. The handles are padded with a heavy duty suede-like material, and are quite comfortable. I use these by far more than any other flat nose.
These are pricey pliers, the high quality materials and finishes don't come cheap. Because their handles are a little more thick they are wider against the palm, especially for smaller hands, which may make manipulating small rings or objects difficult while holding them. For this reason, mother uses the Tronex in one hand and Baby Wubbers flat nose (which are slimmer) in her other hand.
Wubbers classic series:
They come in narrow, medium, and wide sizes, referring to the “height” of the jaws. The different sizes can be useful to fit in different places or get a better hold on larger loops. They are decently well made and reliable, and suitable for use with most sizes of wire. These are large flat nose with large, foam padded handles.
The classic series are ergonomic and make exerting force a little easier for weaker hands, but their size can make them a unwieldy and not very suited to closing jump rings. They hold relatively well, but you may find your wire or rings slipping a little in the jaws and they can leave marks if you use too much force.
Baby wubbers flat nose:
A smaller and more maneuverable version of the wubbers pliers. They are of similar quality and performance, though their small size makes them easier to hold and use. They are easier to use for closing jumprings than their larger cousins and the smaller handles fit better in most hands, even very small ones.
Like the other wubbers flat nose, they hold pretty well but you will often find rings or loops sliding around in the jaws and they can leave marks if you squeeze too hard.
